You are on holiday, and time is everything. But you also have a worry that won't go away. Maybe you are flying home tomorrow, or maybe you just can't stand the anxiety of waiting days for an email.

You want answers, and you want them now.

When you search for a "quick STD test," you need to know exactly which tests are instant and which ones legally require lab time. In Koh Samui, we can give you peace of mind for major infections like HIV before you even finish your water bottle.

Here is your guide to the fastest sexual health screening on the island.

Why You Can Trust Us

We are the medical team at Doctor Lamai Clinic. We specialize in "Urgent Care" for tourists, which means our entire clinic is built for speed and efficiency. We don't have the bureaucracy of large hospitals. We use the latest 4th Generation Rapid Tests (the same technology used in Western sexual health clinics) to give you accurate, hospital-grade results without the hospital wait times. We know you are in a rush, and we are ready to help.

Which Tests are "Quick"? (The 20-Minute List)

Not all STD tests are created equal. Some infections live in the blood (fast to test), while others live in DNA (slower to test).

The "Instant" Tests (Results in 15-20 Minutes)

These are performed right here in our clinic lab. You do not need to come back later.
  • HIV (4th Generation): Checks for both antibodies and the P24 antigen.
  • Syphilis (VDRL): Checks for active infection.
  • Hepatitis B & C: Checks for viral antigens.
  • How it works: A simple finger-prick blood test.
  • The Timeline: You walk in, see the doctor, get tested, and receive your resultall in under 45 minutes.

The "Lab" Tests (Results in 24-48 Hours)

Important: There is no accurate "instant" test for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. Rapid strip tests for these bacteria exist, but they are notoriously inaccurate (often missing infections). We do not use them because we refuse to give you a false sense of safety.
  • The Gold Standard: We use PCR (DNA) testing for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
  • The Speed: Results typically take 1 to 2 days.
  • The Solution: If you are leaving Koh Samui, we simply email you the results. You do not need to wait on the island.

How Much Does a Quick Test Cost?

We believe in transparent pricing. You won't get hit with surprise "tourist fees."
  • Doctor Consultation: ~500 - 1,000 THB.
  • Rapid HIV Test: ~600 - 1,000 THB.
  • Rapid Syphilis Test: ~500 - 800 THB.
  • Rapid Combo (HIV + Syphilis + Hep B/C): ~2,000 - 2,500 THB.
Compare this to international hospitals, where "emergency" fees can push the price over 4,000 THB for the same tests.

How to Get a Quick Test (Step-by-Step)

We have streamlined our process to be as fast as possible for walk-in patients.
  1. Walk In: No appointment is needed. Open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  2. Express Registration: Show your passport (required by law) for a confidential file.
  3. The Test: You will see the nurse immediately for sample collection.
  4. The Result: Relax in our AC waiting area. In 20 minutes, the doctor will call you back in to show you the test cassette and explain the result.
  5. Treatment: If you test positive for something like Syphilis, we can give you the antibiotic injection immediately.

Preparation Tip for Speed

If you also want to test for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea (even though results take 24 hours), remember this rule to avoid delays:

Do NOT urinate for 1 hour before you arrive.

If you pee right before the test, we cannot get a good sample, and you will have to sit in our waiting room drinking water for an hour. Save time by holding it!

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the quick HIV test accurate?
Yes. 4th Generation Rapid tests are over 99% accurate if taken after the window period (4 weeks post-exposure). They are the standard for initial screening worldwide.

Can I get a quick test for Herpes?
No. Blood tests for Herpes are slow (lab-based) and often unreliable. If you have active sores, we can swab them for a PCR test (2-3 days). If you have no symptoms, we generally do not recommend rapid testing for Herpes due to false positives.

What if I have to catch a flight?
No problem. Come in, do the test, and if you can't wait 20 minutes (or if you need the 24-hour PCR tests), we will send the results to your phone via secure email or WhatsApp. You can be in Bangkok or back home when you read them.

Do I need to fast (stop eating) before the test?
No. You do not need to fast for STD blood or urine tests. You can eat and drink normally (just remember the "don't pee" rule for men!).

Is the quick test confidential?
100%. We do not share your results with your hotel, airline, or insurance company unless you specifically ask us to (for a claim).
